April Rae Sunddie Manalo
April Rae Sunddie Manalo, known as “Sunddie” to her friends and colleagues, is a seasoned chorister, classical vocalist, and choir director from the Philippines. She has led choirs including the Manila Adventist Medical Center Church Choir, Channels, Regent Square Chorale Alumni, Coro San Benildo of De La Salle University-College of St. Benilde, and vocally coached the University of the Cordilleras Chorale.
Trained with Prof. Rey T. Paguio and later under Prof. Andrea Veneracion, Elmo Makil, and Kitchi Molina, April was a member of the University of the Philippines Concert Chorus and the Philippine Madrigal Singers, winning the European Grand Prix 1997 at the Florilege Vocal De Tours (France) and participating in other prestigious international competitions. She was also a member of the Asian Youth Choir 2000 and 2009. She performed professionally with the San Miguel Master Chorale and the Singapore Lyric Opera. In the USA, she sang with P’Opera and conducted its Spanish-themed concert at the Reno Artown Festival in 2018. She was also featured as a conductor in the Andrea Veneracion 50th Anniversary: Philippine Madrigal Singers’ reunion concert at the Ford Theater in Los Angeles in 2015.
April studied at the University of the Philippines Conservatory of Music, La Sierra University, St. Paul University, and the University of Nevada Reno, focusing on vocal performance and choral conducting. Now a health professional in Nursing and Physical Therapy, her ultimate goal is to serve as a missionary, providing health care to those in need.
