Aida Andrade Gamboa
Aida Andrade Gamboa is the music director of Mater Dolorosa Church in South San Francisco since July, 2023. She directs the Adult Choir, Children’s Choir and Healing Mass Choir and plays for two Sunday masses.
Aida graduated from the University of the Philippines with a Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance and Music Education. She has concertized in the Philippines, the USA, Asia and Europe as a member of the Philippine Madrigal Singers from 1974 to 1980 and as an opera singer and classical vocal artist from 1985 onwards. Some of her notable performances were Cherubino in Mozart’s “Marriage of Figaro”, the dying Mother Prioress in Poulenc’s “ Dialogues of the Carmelites”, Hansel in Humperdinck’s “Hansel & Gretel” and the solo voice in Poulenc’s “La Voix Humaine”, among others.
Aida has taught choir & General music in the Edison Public School district in New Jersey from 1996 to 2022. She has been recognized by NAFME with a New Jersey Master Music teacher award in 2014, the New Jersey Governor’s award in Arts Education in 2015, and the University of the Philippines Alumni Association, USA, the distinguished Alumna Award in Education in 2017.
Aida has worked also as music director of St. Cecelia Church in Iselin, NJ from 2019 until she moved to the Bay Area in July, 2022, to live closer to her two children, Marian & Cristine, their spouses and her grandchildren, Kal, Kaia & Lexi.
